Reigny is a timeless, feminine, and versatile upcycling design. Old jeans can be transformed into a range of pieces using the same base pattern – a top, dress, jacket, or top-and-skirt combo – each with room for its own variations, such as bishop sleeves, bell sleeves, a waistband finish, or a simple hem. You can keep the fabric surface plain or give it a crafted look with the cut-out technique. The jacket closes with a front zipper. The dress has an optional side zipper, though depending on the stretch of your material, you may not need it.

Fabric Recommendations:
We recommend using woven jeans with some amount of elastane, or raw denim. Skinny jeans can also work, but with high-stretch fabric, be prepared to make more adjustments to achieve the right fit. We suggest making a simple first sample of the bodice before attempting the version with heart cut-outs. When using jeans as your fabric, the amount needed varies depending on the size, style, length, and condition of the jeans. As a guide: for the jacket in size 5, we used five pairs of jeans plus one for the contrast hearts; for the dress in size 2, we used six pairs plus one for the contrast hearts. We had a good supply of small-size skinny jeans donated to us. For the lining of the heart cut-outs, we used lightweight fabric scraps, which makes the process easier.

When using new fabric, choose a medium- weight cotton, linen, or hemp.
